Dental Centre of AKTH has organized a COVID 19 training for clinical and non-clinical staff of the hospital.
Dr Chinagozi Edwin, Head of Department Medical Microbiology facilitated the sensitization lectures.
He said the objectives of the presentation is to provide guidance to health care workers on how to protect themselves, their patients and the larger community and curtail the spread of the infectious disease Covid-19
Presenting a lecture on Point of Care Risk Assessment (PCRA) Dr Edwin explained PCRA is a systematic process of evaluating and reviewing work-related activities and environment for possible risks and implementing suitable control measures to minimize the possible risks by using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face mask, protective clothing, hand gloves, goggles, face shields and so on.
The second presenter, Salisu Inuwa, Asst. Chief Nursing Officer with Infections Control Unit delivered a lecture on Hand Hygiene in Healthcare, he defined it as the action of cleaning hands by using soap under running water or using Hand sanitizer.
He stated other times to observe Hand hygiene in Health care to include, on arrival at the workplace, before and after Nursing a patient, e.g. bathing, bed making after visiting the toilet, before and after handling food; eating or feeding patient, before and after giving medication among other. He then demonstrated how to wash hands and effective ways of wearing PPE etc.
