A Gastroenterologist Professor Alhaji Adamu Samaila has called for regular sensitization to general public to ease the burgen of hepatitis B in this country.  He disclosed this during a lecture presented in the Hospital to marked World Hepatitis Day organized by the Department of Internal Medicine on Monday, 29th July, 2019.

Professor A.A. Samaila explained that about 26 million people live with hepatitis B in Nigeria, while 10 million people do not know their status.

 

 

 

 

During the event free Hepatitis screening was conducted using the rapid Diagnostic Kit.  About 300 people were screening and those found positive were referred to GIT Clinic for further care.

The lecture with the theme “Invest in Eliminating Hepatitis, Finding the Missing Million” has attracted many audiences within and outside the Hospital creating awareness on the need for people to know their status with a view to eliminating the disease.
