The Catering Services Department which is charged with the provision of Catering Services to In-patients of the Hospital and also provides refreshments to the Hospital Guests and other Management Committees. 

As mentioned above, the Catering Unit provides food and other specialized diets to in-patients, while also providing entertainment  to Hospital Guests and Management Committees.  The department is divided into two Units – Catering and Dietetics Units.The Dietetic Unit prepares and serves Therapeutic diets to in-patients with different ailments, counsel, teaches, plan, and implement nutritional care to both in and out-patients of the Hospital.

The department is also charged with the running of the Hospital Guest Houses.  The services provided include accommodation, food, and drinks.  Catering Department through its services has made significant contribution to the development of the Teaching Hospital.  In response to the needs of its patients, Catering Department has re-designed its activities to meet the needs of both the Inpatients and other Management Committees.

Achievements/Performance:

The Dietetic Unit of the Department through its daily awareness lectures in different Clinics of the Hospital made reasonable impact on patients’ diet requirements in different illness.  The Catering Unit was also able to provide food and drinks services to the inpatients and other Management Committees’ refreshments.

Staff Development:

Some Junior staff of the department are currently undergoing a Diploma Programme in Kano State Polytechnic.    Five other staff were sponsored under the previos year Training Proposal for Workshops at ASCON Badagry Lagos, Centre for Management Development Shingisha Lagos, and Hospital Caterers Annual Conference at Abeokuta Nuero-psychitaric Hospital.
