Maggot therapy involves the use of larvae works excreted by flies to cure detected diseases in humans.
This was disclosed by Dr. Mustapha A. Yusuf of Microbiology department during a clinical presentation.
According to him the maggot therapy was introduced as an alternative cure to wounds that are not responding to clinical treatments or which sometimes even require amputation of the affected part of the body and non-surgical wounds.
He stressed the importance of the maggot therapy as it speeds up the healing process of wounds and reduces the cost of treatments, use of anti-biotic and sometimes requires no surgery.
Dr. Yusuf further stated that the maggot therapy is also used in the institution and eradication of diseases.
Commenting, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Abdurrahaman Abba Sheshe commended the presenter for a well-documented presentation and express hope that one day AKTH will be equipped with the maggot therapy facilities
