Professor Aminu Zakari Muhammad who originates from Shanono local government area of Kano State was born on the 19th November, 1970.
He was enrolled into Kano capital school from 1975- 1981 for his primary education and from there he proceeded to the Air Force Military School Jos for his Secondary Education from 1981- 1986.
He got admission into university of Jos, School of Medicine in 1986, where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1992.
He started as a house officer in Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in 1992 and finally became a consultant pathologist in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in 2001.
He headed various Departments within AKTH and BUK, which include; Haematology, BUK and AKTH, 2002-2007, pathology, AKTH, 2004- 2007 and chemical pathology, BUK& AKTH 2004- 2006.
He also served as a visiting consultant at the National Orthopedics Hospital, Dala from 2003 to date and was the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, AKTH 2006- 2010.
He was involved with Teaching and examination of undergraduate Medical Students as well as training of postgraduate doctors in pathology.
He served as a member of various committees of Bayero University Kano, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, General Community Services, Professional Service/ honors.
He also attended so many courses and conferences within Nigeria and offshore, which include, Health Resources Management Administration course organized by the National Post graduate Medical College of Nigeria, Lagos University Teachers Hospital in 2000, Training of Trainers Workshop on Multi -national Injury Surveillance pilot project organized by International physicians for prevention of nuclear war, Nairobi, Kenya 2006 and an update course organized by Nigerian Medical Association, Kano State Branch, 2006 among others.
Dr. Zakari received an award of being the best candidate in the;
- 3rd MBBS Examination (pathology/ pharmacology) University of Jos in 1991.
- Best candidate in Anatomic Pathology- National Post graduate Medical College of Nigeria 2011.
- Best Candidate in part II FMC Pathology Examination 2011.
- Meritorious Service award by Kano State Medical Student Association 2003.
- Certificate of Excellence of outstanding performance and lasting contribution as a reviewer for a journal of National Medical Association 2006.
He wrote many papers for presentation at conferences, Dr. Zakari contributed in the publication ofmore than 50 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, which include; journal of national Medical Association in 2007, African Journal of Urology 2007, Journal of Otolaryngology 2001 to mention a few.
